The Deerwood Kiwanis Club was organized in early 1998 by a team of Kiwanians from the local division clubs headed by Albert Russ, who was then a member of Jacksonville Beaches Kiwanis Club, and Lillian Bell, who was Lt. Governor of Division 5 at the time.
Deerwood Kiwanis Club was chartered on May 29, 1998 at a meeting held at the club house of Deerwood Country Club. Mark Ferlin was elected president and meetings were held at Deerwood Country Club. Mark served the remainder of that fiscal year and was re-elected for a full year term.
Our Club moved its meeting place to the Jacksonville Marriott in 1999 and remained there until 2005. Later we also conducted our meetings at Steak and Ale, Carrabbas, and the Holiday Inn at I-95 and Baymeadows until moving to the current Deercreek Country Club.
